Its all Korean this year! First we see Samsung taking on the mighty Apple in the smartphone world, and then Psy Gangnam styling all dance floors around the world. The Korean automobile industry is not staying behind. Kia launches its 2013 Sorento just days after Hyundai launched its much anticipated new Santa Fe.

Kia Sorento 2013 is not a major upgrade - that they did in 2011 with their current popular best-selling SUV. The 2013 comes with a number of new improvements, but still pretty much the same mechanical vehicle we saw in 2011 and 2012. It still remains a value-rich vehicle, even in base form, with all kinds of configurations and options--engines, transmissions, traction systems, seating - something that was the appeal for this model all along. Basically a lot of car of the dirhams spent!
The most significant changes that Kia announced were that now leather seats would be standard on the EX models and a 3rd row standard in the V6 LX versions.
Just to re-cap the various models:
LX is the cheapest coming in both 4 and 6 cylinders with FWD and AWD.
EX is mid-range again with the same configuration.
SX is the top of the range coming only in 6 cylinders.
The Sorento's LX, EX and SX models have 3.5-liter V-6 and 2.4-liter four-cylinder powertrains matched with a six-speed automatic transmission. Although the V6 has the power and feel of a powerful SUV that reacts to the pedal, the 4-cylinder is not a bad option either - especially if the 3rd row is excluded. This direct injection four has 191 bhp and delivers as much as 32 mpg on highways.
