Good restaurants in Dubai?

Postby Rocky on Tue Jan 24, 2006 11:09 am

We've passed the long discussion on bars and partying, but for the few of us more excited by the gastronomic experience, it would be good to get some ideas on restaurants people prefer.

Anyone has any favourite restaurants that they would like to recommend?

Best Iranian food I've eaten!

Postby Zak on Mon Jan 30, 2006 12:40 am

I'll be the first to contribute to this thread. I fancy the Iranian restaurants in Dubai. There are a quite a few of them.

My favourite is the Pars Irani in Satwa. Its an outdoor place, but really relaxing this time of the year where you can sit down on a mat and cushions and get a hot grill in front of you. The food and ambience is great. Add some sheesha and tea to the evening and that will top it. Great place to take visitors to Dubai.

If you are really hungry and want a great deal go to Daniel restaurant in Twin Towers in Diera. They are on the 2nd or 3rd floor so it is not that easy to find if you dont know where to go. They have a great buffet for 30 dhm per person and the food is great! This time of the year you can sit outside on the terrace and enjoy the view of the creek with a sheesha.

I also found a real cheap place but good food. Its on Rolla street in Bur Dubai. Actually quite close to the notorious Imperial hotel. The food is great and cheap.

I am sure there are many more, but these are the ones I know of.

I'll write later on my experience with other cuisines.

Depends on what you are looking for in a good restaurant. sometimes good restaurants have terrible service or decor, but Excellent food.

A few Personal recommendations.

- Al Damyati

(Karama, same road as the karama muncipality, opp the Karama post office).

Simply one of the most reasonable and tastiest arabic food in town. Go for the Lamb chops, kebabs or chicken. Atmoshpere is not suitable for everyone. Although they have a family section upstairs. Can get very busy at time. Quick and simple food.

WARNING: Not that suitable for vegetarians  , unless you like Felafel.

- Little Hut Restaurant (Oppostie Al Damyati)

A long standing Indian restaurant. Good prices. I go for the Fish Curry and Chicken tandoori. Service could be better.

- Dum Pukht. (Somewhere in Karama, I think it is on the Trade center road towards karama).

They specialise in Biriyanis. Good quality and is always busy...

- Treasure Island (I think that is the name..)

Chinese restaurant. Good food bad location. Right next to the Dubious Cyclone club... Lunch time they have a nice Executive lunch deal (30 bucks, with a starter, drink, soup, Main course, and desert).

Good service, good food, quick. Bad lighting... Evening time they have a buffet. They serve alcohol

- Chin Chin

This Small Chinese Rsetaurant is in Satwa (on the same Road as the Rashid Port). Great Food and good portions.

I ordered the Steam dimsum (14dhs), BokChoi with Tofu(18) and soup (7). Great quality. Quick service. But not enough room for sit in. Only 4 tables...

-Karachi Darbar

This is a pakistani style restaurant that offers no frills service. But Excellent food (if you go at the right time). can be busy, and some food is oily. Many branches, but I go to the Karama one. Not suitable for large family groups. Atmosphere a bit like a canteen. Cheap and cheerful.

Thats all I can think of now. More to come later. :)

That is all for now.

Burj

Now Navadv goes there all the time :)

Never eaten there but the Sky bar is quite a bore in my view...the decor is tacky 80-ish disco theme and the crowd was extremely boring (and old). Drinks were good and the price not as crazy as one would have expected...the view is fabolous.

My recommendations

Postby root on Fri Dec 15, 2006 11:16 pm

This was an old topic that was brought to life, so here are some of my recommendations:

Italian: Hilton Jumeirah Beach (forgot the name of the restaurant) but the food was great and very authentic.

Pakistani: Bar-B-Q Delight next to Lamcy plaza. Great food and good prices.

Indian: Like Ashas at Wafi. Good food and nice ambience. A bit pricy though.

Persian: Great deal buffet at Daniels in Twin Towers Diera. Eat as much as you like for 35 dhms. THey have a branch on Sh Zayed Road as well close to Mazaya center.

Arabic/Lebanese: Again cant remember name (think is Safir) but on Sh Zayed Road between Axiom Cafe and Dusit Dubai hotel. Was there twice and both times better than any other place I've been to.

Oriental/Fusion: Noodle bar at Emirates Tower or Madinat Jumeirah are good value for money. Would recommend going there. Other than that Japengo is decent.

Sushi: Sho-Chos at Dubai Marina Club. Very nice ambience (its actually a bar) but a bit pricey.

Still looking for a good Chinese, Thai and Moroccan place. Everywhere I tried I've been dissappointed.

Among all the restaurants you guys have mentioned, these are the ones I have been to. I'll make it simple by just writing 'Good' or 'Bad' for each one:

Pars: Good

Daniel Restaurant: Good

Al Damyati: Good

Little Hut: Bad

Dum Pukht: Bad

Treasure Island: Bad

Chin Chin: Bad

Karachi Darbar: Awesome 8)

Bar-B-Q Delight: Good (I went their with a group of friends and it was just awesome :) )

You peeps have even been inside Burj Al Arab. :P
One restaurant I would highly recommend is Ibrahimi Restaurant. Pakistani/Indian cuisine, 5 star customer service and ambience. Its located in Karama. I forgot the exact location. :P Will post soon.
Give respect, get respect.
