Big SUVs aren't only popular in the United States - in Middle East, large SUVs are somewhat of a status symbol. Hoping to appeal to the large SUV shoppers, Nissan made sure that its new Patrol flagship SUV competes strongly against the popular Toyota Land Cruiser.

The SUV which is more upscale, leather-lined and TV-screened blingwagon supports a direct-injected a 400 hp 5.6-liter V8 engine capable to produce 405 pound-feet of torque. The transmission is a seven-speed automatic.

The luxury model is loaded with a new electronic four-wheel-drive system that offers four driver-selectable modes namely pavement, sand, rock, and snow. Other major attractions are a hydraulic body rolls mitigation system, hill start assist, and hill descent control.

Interior

The interior, made up of high quality material, is designed to provide drive comfort and air-conditioned insulation between each passenger and glass through so called "curtain vent". Supported by climate-controlled leather seats, the vehicle is also equipped with Arabic-supported HDD navigation, wide WVGA 8-inch touch screen, multi-screen DVD entertainment system and 9.3GB Music Box hard drive.

Another attractive feature is the Off-road Monitor for keeping eye on tyre conditions involving steer angle, slip and pressure. Further, a centre console cool-box is also provided which can be opened from both 1st & 2nd-row seats.
The direct rival of this model is the Toyota Land Cruiser, an SUV that also had its renewal last year. The new Patrol will be the basis for future Infiniti QX 2011.

Coming in April I hear! Nissan does not even have a demo or test vehicle at this stage!
But you can order one now.
