Hmmm, thats interesting. Other than that, if you look at the profile of people living/working here over the past 10-15 years (when the 'boom' really started) most of them were younger professionals who were single and couldn't affort luxury cars. The profile has changed now, there is a much larger 'wealth' population of young professionals who can afford to enjoy a car for 2-3 years and then change it, often selling it to someone who is starting out their career in dubai.
Isn't south africa a right-hand drive country? I think most of the 're-export' vehicles coming from HK and japan end up there.
