I found this '72 Camaro 4 $11,500 & there r hundreds of others 4 even cheaper rates... http://www.classiccarmall.net/classified2-778.htm
Im not gonna getting one but how can you import such a car & get it registered in the UAE??
Would Tasjeel give people a hard time with classic cars which might be a reason why we dont see many on our roads or simply bcuz many ppl got the money but not the interest?? I quite dont understand the classic car market in UAE..
Ive seen some classic car showrooms in Al Aweer & SHJ & they seem to be overpriced & poorly restored...
cheers..

According to the law there is no limit on registering old cars, and as you said there are a few vintages available for sale and registration on the market.
The car needs to pass the Tasjeel tests to get registered. It's always good if you can go with a 'wasta' or through a workshop who has a 'wasta', but if the car is fine there should be no reason for not registering it.
The classic car market is strange here, and I've tried to understand it as well. The only explanation I have is that as most of the people here are expats, they are not here or do not plan to be so long to have collector items like vintage vehicles in their collection.
That leaves you with the remaining locals, and I think they have their share of vintage vehicles and are the ones we see.

root, you mention that you do see a few classic/antique cars about...from what period? 1960s, 50s, 40s, 30s or earlier?

You see all of them..but not on the streets daily! Mainly if there is some special occasion like a car parade, or some exhibition.

I guess driving a T-model Ford in +50C is not a great idea for the car or the driver! You think most of such cars have been imported in recent years from USA/Europe or are they cars that were imported new into the MiddleEast?

Very few were imported new!
Take a look at the maps from 1971 and you will not see many roads in UAE.
