Speeding Tolerance level?

Postby gazza on Mon Oct 24, 2005 2:29 pm

Hi Everyone!
With this forum discussing (or tracking) speed cameras, I wanted to confirm what the overspeeding limits are.

I was told that on highway it is 10 km, i.e, if the limit is 100 you can do 110 before getting fined.

However, I hear that on the 80 km/hr roads like Beach Road or Al-Wasl, you get fined even at 81 km/hr. This is a bit strange that the tolerance level is just 1 km. Can anyone confirm if this is right? What if my speedometer is not perfectly tuned to show the right speed?

heard the same

I heard the same but hard to believe the 81 km/h rule...in that can make sure one does not go over 75 km/h.

There must be some truth in this now that I've heard it from several sources.

hi gazza and sushi,

i am new at this site. but the topic u both r discussing then let me also add something. well gazza ur rite if limit is 100 km/h then 10 km/h is added to it. and now if u talk on highways like abu dhabi to al-ain aur dubai to al-ain then the speed limit now-a-days, after alteration which was done on request of job doers who were frequently caught on camera, is 140 km/h but the camera limit is exceeded means it is 160 km/h. rest do let me know if i am rite or not. but this i can say i am rite cause i checked myself with my uncle. anyhow have fun guyz.

Weird!

Postby Overdrive on Sun Oct 30, 2005 2:27 pm

What gazza is saying about the 70 / 71 limit is really crazy, a difference to your car's 'standard' tire size can throw off your speedo from 1- 5 kph. Were's the guy who interviewed a traffic cop? Can someone please check this out?

dubai police website

It would be good if the Dubai Police website had any up-to-date information!
Their Traffic Safety section seems like untouched since 2002.

70 km/h?

Postby Ferrari on Mon Oct 31, 2005 1:37 am

Found this on ameinfo:

Dubai gets more radars
United Arab Emirates: Thursday, August 25 - 2005 at 08:29
Dubai's roads will be covered by up to 70 more traffic radars by October, as part of a strategy by Dubai Police to reduce accidents and fatalities, reported Gulf News. Around 14 of the radars will be fitted on Jumeirah Road, which may also have its speed limit reduced from 80km/h to 70km/h.

Better park your car and start walking soon! :)

More research on fines :)

Postby Ferrari on Mon Oct 31, 2005 1:40 am

Hey..here's some more (unconfirmed) info!

Since March 2005, the following apply:

Radar for all speeding fines now DHS500
Red light now DHS1,500 first time +3 days in jail on second time

All radars re-set to apparently catch +10 km/hr tolerance ( before it was 20 )

Jumeira Beach road max limit 80 km/hr ( 0 tolerance )

Hidden/mobile cameras in all villa areas - limit 40 km/hr ( yes only 40 km/hr)

-Crossing yellow lines into the Hard shoulder of many roads is considered as a serious crime.....6 months hold of car ..If second time, licence cancelled.
