Hi, i just bought a 2006 CLS 55 AMG there was a slight vibration in the engine, but when i checked it @ EMC in Abu Dhabi they told me after conducting several tests that 3 of the pistons are loosing pressure which means the combustion is not complete in the engine compartment!! hence the vibration and also each time i start the car a very thick smoke come out! the recommendation was to open the Engine and replace all 8 pistons! but is that normal to open an AMG Engine? can you please recommend a professional workshop who deals with AMG cars? any advise on workshops, estimated cost, risk factor is very much appreciated thank you, Wadie

Ouch! Well, you have another dealer in Dubai - Gargash Motors. You could probably try with them. AMG is still a Merc badged/sold tuning house. Not always sure that the mechanic knows whats wrong, and for them its easier to just replace it all.
What costs are they quoting you for this?
Other workshops - hmmm, there are a few modifications workshops in Dubai that are listed under the Tuning Forum (search for them). They might have mechanics who know this stuff, but then they might not.
Whatever you do (and depending on how much their quoting you), I'd suggest to get a 2nd and/or 3rd opinion!

Thanks Root! Ouch indeed A dealer is a dealer they just want to rip you off, I have verified the problem @ their workshop just because they have the necessary diagnostic tools for an AMG engine! But I'm not planning to repair it there, as they didn't give me any guarantee!! Plus the quotation was 38K!! I would like to fix it @ a professional workshop that knows what they are doing! Thanks for the tip & I will look up the workshop names:)

There are a bunch of decent workshops that do have the german computers to diagnose those vehicles. The ones I know are in Al-Quoz close to Mall of Emirates, opposite Lulu hypermarket in Dubai. One is Max, another TR, Esquire behind is a bit cheaper - they do many of the german cars and have the Bosch equipment setup like the dealers do.
Not sure about Abu Dhabi, but hearsay is that there are places like these in Musaffah.
Also, my suggestion would be to read some of the German boards around AMG engines. I once had a peculiar car 5-cylinder Audi and no one could find out the problem among the mechanics here, but some guys on the board diagnosed it very correctly.

Max Garage is 04-340 8200
TR (Technical Resources) is 04-3402840. TR might have a workshop in Abu Dhabi as well. Maybe worth inquiring.
But as Brembo said, Silber Arrow should probably among your top choices! They claim to specialize as Merc experts - they had a huge marketing campaign with banners a few weeks ago on SZR.
(I still wonder, why its called "Silber" ?)

Check our our website www.silberarrows.com, but preferably for a more sociable look - go to www.facebook.com/silberarrowsp.s - why "Silber" - its German for Silver and there were too many companies named Silver Arrows - so we wanted to be different... Silberpfeil now would've been German! But what's in a name - reviews on your service are good and thats what counts! I tell you, with the way the agents treat and charge you, anyone who does that little extra at a fare rate would do very well in this market.

Yes, the full German name would have been nice - difficult one to spell/pronounce for some.... haha Thanks for the vote of confidence too - yes this town lacks some decent service places - so we aim to bring that here for everyone's benefit!

If its just a mechanical job the i would take it to 'abdul razzak talib' garage in aweer. He has some very good equipment/machinery at his shop and he does pretty well with engine rebuilds. Infact, you will never find a day when he doesnt have a few engine blocks lying around. He is a bit pricey when compared to other small places but i trust him for gettingthings right the first time and this is very Important to me.
Is garage is located in al aweer in dubai, i'll tryto pull out a map for you. Let me know if you are interested, I can call him and check prior to your visit.
