Re: Shifted from 14" to 17"what car do you drive that had 14 inch wheels?
did you keep the overall diameter of the wheels the same? if you dont know, tell me your stock 14inch tire size and the new 17 inch tire specs. it can be found on the side of the tire for example 185/60R14
Re: Shifted from 14" to 17"Alignment work is generally not needed for new wheels and tires if the old ones were in good shape. Alignment is mostly to do with the struts.
However when you upgrade to such wider wheels, a bigger strain comes onto the suspension and worn parts might start giving, also you might have had a slightly faulty tire and the new ones made a slight change. So not only should you fine tune the alignment, but since you upgraded and had a difference in the drive then you should check the struts and the ball-joints for any wiggle. Also if in a short while you start feeling the ride becoming quite loud and you can "hear" the bumps, then you overdid the size upgrade. You'll need to either get some sports shock absorbers or reduce the size to allow for a higher profile tire.
Re: Shifted from 14" to 17"nice info man... ill be definitely going for the alignment... and yup strut and bearing checkup is also a must....
You will have to compromise the noise sound and the bumps as now its the rim is doing all the business and the tires are a mere visual... Bumps are more sensitive now and the sound of tires is louder... but that depends on u how much ur into this bling bling thing that u ignore such facts... also... if ur not dead slow on bumps... suspension is 4 months death time .... after that... its a nightmare... im snail at the bumps hehe... and the grip is awesome when ur driving at high speeds... ![]()
