Coil over VS Springs???

Postby azi malik on Thu Aug 26, 2010 10:47 pm

Which is better for lowering your ride? Coil overs or Lowering springs?

I heard coil overs are stiffer than springs... but need an expert advice

to improve ride handling, coilovers definitely. a good set will let you tune the suspension settings to whatever you desire like ride height, damping etc. they consist of springs + shocks.

lowering springs are springs only, it just lowers the car. handling may improve as the center of gravity is reduced. though in the long run it will probably destroy your shock absorbers.

do note if you lower your car more than 1inch you will probably need a camber kit to get the alignment back to factory spec

off topic: you have started more new posts in 1 month than i have in 2-3yrs lol

hmmm thanks for the details... but one of my frnds was saying the coilovers make ur suspension hard as rock... and even small bumps gets all the body rattled...

The springs on the other hand would be replacing only ur stock springs... the stock shocks will be as they are... so the ride would be a bit softer... but thats just a guess...

and haha.... posts are for the love of cars... this site is *bookmarked* ;)

oh and i forgot... what would getting a camber kit mean?
Would i be required to get a new one for the new coilovers or just need it to be aligned again from a wheel alignment workshop?

yes springs would be more comfortable than coilovers. Coilovers will give you better handling compared to springs. so you have to decided what you need more.

camber kit is so that your wheel camber can be brought back to spec cause when the car is lowered the camber and toe changes. you will definitely need an alignment after installation of springs or coilovers. google for camber kits for your car.

for normal drives go for springs... coilovers will make it too stiff for u... but as mentioned above by brembo... better handling is with coilovers
