Importing a 7 year old car to Dubai from Riyadh

I am a resident in Saudi Arabia and I drove my car to Dubai with its Saudi plates. Then I decided to relocate from Riyadh to Dubai.

My question is: Do I have to bring the car back to Riyadh before registering it as a Dubai car once I get my Dubai residency? Can I just remove the plates from the car and submit them to the traffic department in Riyadh instead of taking the car back and forth?

Would appreciate any light on this issue. Thanks.

Can't say much about KSA policies, but in UAE if you want to get export plates and papers, you need to take your car for de-registration, where the only thing they do is check the VIN/chassi number to make sure the papers are being made for a 'real' car.

I would guess KSA should have similar requirements, unless you have a 'wasta' :)
