Import Toyota Supra Sport car: Expat coming soon

Postby vdaill on Sat Sep 15, 2007 1:48 pm

Hi there,

I'm just arrived from France in Abu Dhabi Emirate and want to import my Toyota Supra MK3 here. It's a sport car with a complete new motor: it is a 2,7l engine with single turbo. The car body is also tuned and everything in the car has been modified with sport parts.

Will it be possible to register it in Abu Dhabi emirate? What type of documents should I collect?

Is there some modifications that should have been done to fit UAE specifications?

The car fits european specifications with LHD.

Search the forum. This question has been answered many times.

You need to have proper papers of the car, and I believe you need to have a residence permit while importing it in. If its passed in Europe, then it'll pass here as well.

If you have some mods done to your car and they suspect it looks like a street racing car, you can get into some issues.

why's that? Its a legit car unless you have mod-ed it too much. No?

im not sure, this is what i heard from others. could be because most supras are heavily modded here or the RHD to LHD conversion.
maybe TNT or someone can chip in with more info??

Yes, wasta is 101% required for registering something heavily modified or converted.

not modded and a proper RHD to LHD conversion is done at a reputable garage, can a supra be registered without wasta in dubai?

I don’t think that is correct, unless when you say lucky you mean that nobody can tell that it was converted.

An original left hand drive Supra would be fine as long as it is mechanically sound, on this point the OP is likely good to go. For cars that are converted I don’t think you can get it registered without a bit of wasta no matter how good a job they do.

I could be wrong though.

On a side note, this is my first post, keep up the interesting forum :)

Fayz! Welcome to the forums! Let there be more postings :)

One other thing...have you guys noticed that many of the modded cars have registration plates from Umm-Al-Quwain or Ras-Al-Khaimah?

Is there a discrepancy on strictness among the states, or easier to find the right wasta over there?

I've heard they are lenient in other states.
I meant that lucky enough to have wasta to acquire the modification approval paper from the police.

It did exist though...remember Al futtaim was selling them around mid 90s and usually they kept it on a stand :).Thats why you could get the spare parts from their workshop.Remember my friend getting a supras rear window glass straight from fujairah's Workshop.
