Need Help am confused

Postby ICE on Sun Aug 27, 2006 9:52 pm

Hi,

I need help from someone who has been riding sport motorcycles in dubai for a while or someone who has the knowledge of it.

I have been riding motorcycles for 13 years now. but they have basicaly been in the commuter segment in india the max i rode is a 350cc enfield.

Now that I have moved to dubai I wish to upgrade and move to higher capacity motorcycle, and i was thinking of a cbr 600 f4i

But as a good friend suggested me not to go for it especially if i inted to daily commute on it for maybe 5-10 kms. as a passion and weekend ride its good. Also that in case i really intend to commute on bike everyday then Suzuki RF400 would be a good. Else the best thing is to take a car, which definitely is logical and practical but because of my go getter attitude and the crave for challenges kinda nature. I still have a 20% doubt about his advice and agree 80%.

But my heart is kinda longing for the CBR600. And i have not able to locate any data on the Suzuki RF400 except a few pics. Can someone advice me what shall I do. What would be better the RF400 or is it possible for me to go for the 600F4 too.

Also if anyone has some info or a website where i can get some data and tech specs for the Suzuki RF 400 that be great.

Thanks,
ICE

Well, even I was a biker back in my country. Bikes are great machines

and I have a huge experience of them.
I usually tell amateur bikers who have just started biking, not to go

for a brand new machine because you are SURE to crash the bike in your

first few months. I ask them just to buy something solid and

secondhand with an engine capacity of no more than 650cc. But you are

an exception, because you have 13 years of experience. But 13 years

experience on commuter bikes like those in India (180cc and the like,

i saw one here) is more or less useless. If you know the basics of

riding heavy bikes (cornering), than i may recommend buying a

brand-new, otherwise, don't. There are cheap second hand ones in the

market, provided you know where to look.
Second, i think you should take your good friends advice because U.A.E

traffic is killer. Although bikes are pretty good for dodging traffic

jams. They are not suitable for daily use, as a weekend machine, they

are great.
On the other hand, if you STILL want a bike, then you might want to

pay a visit to the local dealer.

As far as I know about the RF400, it's a pretty old bike and you won't find any brand new ones. The lowest displacement Suzuki bike which is available is the GSX-R600. CBR 600 F4 isn't available here for some reason but you can certainly buy the CBR 600F or the CBR 600RR. Here are the specs of the RF400 which I could find. These are of an original, non-modified bike.

Horsepower: 53bhp at 11,000 rpm
Maximum revs: 15,000 rpm,
16,000 rpm for the VC model
Torgue: 3.8kgm at 9.500 rpm
Maximum speed: 217 kph
Acceleration: 0-100kph at 4.9 sec

I can help you out in buying a good used bike if you tell me what your budget is.
Go for the Yamaha R6, for 29-33k AED, you will get a 2005+ model in good condition. Those bikes look KILLER. 8)

I ain't got a budget that high.

My range is within 8 - 10K AED

so probably ill get bikes from 1998 -2001.

By the way do you think its feasible to buy a bike now or should I take the advice of my friend and take a car. How ever that calls for more expense.

Thanks

I think you should go for a car if it's the only vehicle you will own. If you will be owning a bike as a second vehicle or weekend fun machine, then its a good idea to buy one, otherwise, forget it!
But you won't get an exactly great car for 8-10k. If you are willing to push your budget up a bit, then there are some great deals out there!

Well I guess ill settle for the car for now. And few months down the line then purchase a Motorcycle.

THanks for all the help T.N.T. Just one thing do keep an eye out for a CBR 400. In case you find any good one do let me know. Probably that would be a good start to get used to with a some high speed bike as well as control over the roads.
