Beginner Bike + insurance

Postby Brembo on Sun Oct 14, 2007 11:46 am

whats a good sports bike for a beginner? something between 400-600cc and 3-4yrs old. maintenance and other running costs should be a minimum too and the bike reliable and easy to ride. im thinking of getting a bike just for the weekends and i dont want anything that will kill me (im quite a sedate driver). comfy seats would be a bonus too :D
oh can a 23yr old with new bike license be insured by any agency in uae? :)
or should i stick to 4 wheels for another 2-3yrs??? 8)

Brembo! Look through some of the older threads..there are some similar discussions as well.

The most popular MC over here is the Honda CBR. You can get 400 and 600, though finding a good 600 is hard.

If you're getting one to toy around with on weekends, go for some 400cc Honda or Yamaha as first choice. If you plan to take it more serious in a few months then go for a 600cc straight away. Notice the higher you go, the easier you can kill yourself. If its your first bike, go for something small.

Also, if you're new, get a 2nd hand one, as you'll surely drop it a few times.

Insurance...that's become really hard. Many companies that used to do bike insurance refuse to do it anymore. Apparently the claims against bikes has gone up like crazy....sounds wierd, but the culprits are those pizza and aramex delivery guys that try to sneak in between cars and scratch your sides while doing it.

I got my bike re-insured last year after a tip from ICE (where is ICE btw??). Some insurance broker sitting in Karama in Al-Attar Business center gave good rates. I think it was called Omega something. Again, search old topics as there are some other tips as well.

i did go thru all the insurance threads and some what bike to get ones too

since im a complete newbie to biking i dont have a clue as to what to get. its definitely going to be a used one. would prefer something that is easy to source parts and get good service. so something that is more popular here would be good.
im 5' 11 and 175lbs and have longish arms. i've read all that play a significant role too in choosing a bike. damn buying a car is sooo much easier... atleast for me

First time biker?
Get something 5 years or older and less than 400cc.
Suzuki Bandit highly recommended.
