Import or Sell?

Postby HillD on Sun Jan 21, 2007 2:14 pm

I am moving to Dubai from th U.K. at the end of March and wondering if any of you out there have imported a bike from the U.K?

It's an 883 Sportster 2002- I've had it for four years and don't really want to part with it.

The value is about 21,000 A.E.D. and it will cost me 3,500 A.E.D. to ship.

Is it worth shipping or should I sell it and buy when I arrive? What are used prices like over there?

Is it easy to re-register?

Help please!

If you love it, then bring it along! Atleast you know the condition of this bike.
Its the normal paper work to get it re-registered, so nothing overly cumbersome.

To check out used prices, search on this site and you'll get a great idea of what they cost.

I would guess you'll find them cheaper over here, but then there are not that many HD 883s being sold every day. You would probably get a 2004-5 for the same price as yours (but then the condition is unclear).

You'll find a lot of used Harley's here if you know where to look.
I guess you should just sell it and buy something new when you come here. That way, you can save money and you are saved from the hassle too.

Thanks Ice - I've sold my Sportster now so will keep an eye open when I arrive at the end of March - that's after I've found somewhere to live.
My family will be joining me at the end of August. The important thing for me is to find a property with a garage - for obvious reasons! 8)
