hey! This spam is getting really bad!
We ban every one who has spammed, but they login with new IDs again!

We clean up spams 3-4 times a day, sometime even more.

Next thing we can do is ban all postings from Russia and China (where most of the spammers originate from). Thats a bit extreme but maybe that's what we'll have to do (until they figure out how to fudge IP addresses and go through proxies).

how many admins and mod are here?
if you have enough mods with ban and edit permissions these things won't last for a long time!

I have an idea which is:
New users will not be allowed to make any kind of posts -new or reply- before 24 or 48 hours -up to you to decide-
if the user isn't intersted in the site he won't come back which will reduce the number of loosers!

I'll think about something else!
For the meantime, why don't you make a new topic so every member can help you with some new ideas?!

We already have the optical confirmation code, but that is not enough.

So, we are testing a few other mods, and I agree with you that if there are few more mods added, then we can atleast reduce the number if not completely block them out.

About the 24-48 hour thing, that's one of the mods we are yet to try. Somehow, it seems that it might keep out a lot of the newbies who finally have the courage to ask a question but have to wait 24 hours.

I think first mod will be of a question that needs to be answered whenever you register and post. This will atleast filter out the spam robots.

There is a mod available in PhpBB which is the approve mod.

When a user creates a new Topic, it needs to first get approved by the admin or the moderator for it to get reflected onto the site.

I had used it earlier when I was using PhpBB on my sites.

You should give it a try. It might work.
