To Be Or Not To Be - A Prado Owner

Postby g00se on Sat Jul 29, 2006 10:36 am

Guys -
I'm new here to AD and I am fed up with grabbing taxis everywhere ! So I've been looking at several makes of 4x4 to buy.

I was quite impressed with the Jeep, but have been advised that it's history of poor quality parts make it a bad buy option [any comments ?].

So I'm not looking at a 3-door Prado [the 5-door is just too big for two of us]. Any comments, experiences, horror stories to share ?

I was also offered a 2005, 3D, 28,000km, one owner for Dh 85,000. What do you think of that deal ?

Look forward to hearing from your collective experiences.

Well, Prados are great 4x4s and the most popular in UAE, so you get the best resale.
The engine is great (simple but effective) and in general quality and drive is good. If you're into offroading the Prado, then you need to make sure to get the VX model. The GX is slightly under-powered but fine for civilized city driving.

5-doors are definitely more popular here and hence greater resale value.

Well, in short, for owning Prados are really good. If you have more money then go for the Land Cruiser.

For resale, Prados maintain highest resale value among all 4x4s. In that 5-doors and those with automatic gears command higher resale.

Jeeps are nice, but as you'll see once you look at buying 2nd hand ones, they lose a lot of price. Reason being quality (starts having problems after 2-3 years) and expensive repair. But then you can get some nice deals on second hand ones which make it all the reason to go for one.

Prados are generally good in resale values so nothing to worry about.
Give respect, get respect.

prados keep value best of all 4x4

hey, given that all cars lose value, Prados have the least drop in any 4x4s sold in UAE. Dont be worried, be happy..enjoy the great buy!
