2009 Audi Q7 V8 or BMW X5 4.8i

Postby Brembo on Wed Jan 14, 2009 11:55 am

need suggestions/opinions on which one is a better vehicle?
looking at thev8 models of both. both come pretty well equipped, the q7 having 3rd row seats where you can actually sit if your not too tall.
305k for the fully loaded q7 with the s line package, 3yr 100k service , warranty and free insurance (will this be some cheap insurance?)

325k for the x5 with the 20inch wheels and aero kit, 5yr service contract and warranty

i know the audi will drink up more fuel, but which is more reliable? do things break in either of these?
does anyone have 1st hand experience about these cars?

I'd go with the BMW X5.

well the x5 wins hands down performance wise. yet to take a test drive, am hoping the ride with the 20inch wheels isnt too bad.
the audi comes with 21 inch wheels!!!
have to admit here in the uae we get the worst options with the cars, cant configure one according to our needs have to buy what the dealer got.

one example is the rear climate control which is lacking in both the above cars.
the only way i can get it in the x5 is buy the next option model which is 350k and comes with a HUD and 3rd row seats along with rear climate control

also lacking here is the adaptive cruise control and the ventilated seats which rest of the world gets to enjoy.

we are gettin ripped of as it is, why cant we atleast choose what options we want lol

Well, you can choose your options, but then you gotta wait 6 months for that car to arrive according to your specs. And as it goes these days, they probably want a large deposit before they do that custom order for you.

BMW is waaay overpriced here! But its got better resale than the Q7.

still undecided, audi is cheaper and also got free insurance offer right now.
not sure how reliable the audi is and how expensive its going to be maintenance wise.

will prices drop further in the coming months? dont mind waiting 2-3months :)

well, hard to predict prices...most manufacturers have reduced production, so supplies are going to be less, so maybe no reason for great discounts.

You might good second hand deals from distressed sellers or dealers holding a large inventory that they want to convert into cash.

Import the X5 from USA if you can wait the 2 months of shipping.

From what I can see if you have a 5 year service warranty from BMW USA, then BMW in UAE needs to honour that as its an international service warranty that is offered by BMW Germany in both cases (and you actually pre-pay for it).

I asked AGMC here and they say that they honour it as long as its a proper international service warranty backed by BMW Germany.

Differences are not much. The X5 is built and designed in BMW USA in their Kentucky plant. Only difference is MPH and Fahrenheit on the gauges and the US navigation CDs. You might get seat warmers and greener exhaust standards than the UAE models. Weather wise, southern USA (Arizona, Texas, New Mexico) have pretty harsh summers as well.

the usa ones are exact same spec, its a very common misconception uae gets more bhp cause of less strict emissions and got more efficient ac etc.

like root said only diff is the mph and no annoying speed limit buzzer or 120kmph light that blinks!!

I think the misconception is mainly on German and Japanese imports that did not have that good A/C for summers here and their radiators were not as heavy duty to take summer heat in addition to the engine heat. So, many got those things modified after importing.
