Buying my first car in dubai

Postby scorpio83 on Tue Dec 16, 2008 10:48 am

Hey all,
I was hoping to get some advice from you, i want to buy a nice car, reliable, cheap parts, not overly pricy (60-100,000). i wanted a 4x4 but most seem to have a very strong engine (too strong), i was thinking of getting a suzuki grand vitara, any thoughts?
alternatively, i was thinking of the new mazda6, what do u think?
if u have any other great cars in mind please let me know :) and if u want to sell ur car also, i m keeping a lookout for used ones...
Thanks a lot

What are you going to use it for? How much are you planning to drive?

The mazda6 is nice. Many people don't talk too high of the dealership. It starts off cheap with the 2.0 liter engine without many frills. But when you reach the 2.5 liter one, the price is more comparable with the entry level Nissan Altimas and Honda Accords. The later two are probably better choices. The mazda6 does have a bit more sportier zoom-zoom to it, but you lose on space.

Suzuki Grand Vitara...isn't that a v6? Its a good value for money 4x4, but not very popular here. So if you intend to sell it soon, you'll lose a lot more than on other 4x4s.

I am sure you can get a distressed seller of a Alfa Brera in your price range if you look hard enough.

There's a new bigger 3.7 Mazda 6 launched here this week as well. Wonder how much that is going for.

hope they priced it cheaper than the altima v6 which is cheaper than the accord v6.
With the right pricing and good dealer support mazda can blow all competition away as its much better equipped and IMO handles much better than the altima or accord

I think the US price starts at $24k, so AED 89k would be an equivalent price.

Yepp! They are desperate to get rid of inventory!

The 730 starting now at 225k including the 5 year service.
The 520 starting now at 147k including the 5 year service.

I am waiting to see the revised pricing for the 3 and 1 series.

Altima v6 is around 100k, but prices are to come down across the board. I hear about 10% reduction on the japanese makes, which will bring it to the 90k range where it should have been in the first place.

The British pound has fallen like a rock recently. I wonder if one could get a cheap Aston Martin or Bentley these days :)

if you can buy it, does not mean you know how to drive it ;)

Ok. Got the pricing for the new Mazda6 Ultra 3.7.
The fully-loaded version is selling for 112k. This is with leather seats, alloy rims, bose music system, start button, sunroof, everything.

Next month, the basic model is coming at 102k. This will not have a lot of the features as above but same engine.

So, its still about 12-13k AED more expensive than US. I wonder where these cars are coming from. Japan or US?

Audi is running special promotions on their existing stock cars. They are giving 5 year service packages now with most new cars. They want to uphold their price levels though, hence this other way to give you something more.

With the Euro going back up quiet fast, the chances for large discounts look slimmer now.

I would personally wait until January before buying a new car. My reasoning:
- Most dealers did their full year sales quotas in August-September due to the great start of the year, while Dubai was going at 320 mph. So, even with sales down in November and December, they still have done their targets for the year. Come January, its a new story, and the car salesmen (and women) need to actually get off their *sses and work for a change (very novel concept in UAE among car dealers where they normally treated customers like shit compared to many other places).

The counter-argument does stand for Japanese cars, where Honda and Toyota/Lexus dealers are claiming that they will be hiking prices in January with the Yen going up so much. This can very much happen! However, with Toyota and Honda posting first time ever quarterly losses, will they really hike prices in a place that still is buying cars? I doubt it! But I might be wrong.

Its funny that when Yen goes down the dealers claim they do all invoicing in dollars so it does not matter. But when it goes up....a ha, another story ;)
