What to buy for 50k

Postby Jan on Tue Oct 09, 2007 12:35 pm

Guys, this forum is great. I just read a couple of threads and that was already helpful.

Now, I'm going to buy a car and would not like to spend more than 50k. The options I like so far would be
- Jeep Cherokee Sport (there are a couple of 2004 models with 50-80,000 km offered at around 50k Dhs)
- Mercedes M-Class (probably either 2000 model or high mileage)
- Land Rover Freelander
- and I just found a 2007 Volvo V70 with 47,000 km which would fit into the budget

In general, the car should fit 4 people + some luggage comfortably and be a safe drive on the road.

Any comments on my first options or other suggestions?

Thanks!!!

I noticed there are hardly any station wagons around. Are they just not poular because everybody is crazy about SUVs?

In that case it might be tough to resell the Volvo in 2 years (which would be the case). I couldn't believe the low resale value either. The seller told me it cost 114k and now he is selling it for less than half after not even one year...haven't looked at it yet.

Thanks for the quick replies! What's your opinion on the Jeep Cherokee Sport? I'm not planning to go off-road a lot but the idea that it's possible to drive over the sand is not too bad...

well if your planning on selling after 2yrs the jeep might be a better idea. the 2007 v70 deal seems too good to be true. looks like the seller is having trouble finding a buyer and you might too when you want to sell it.

Drop the ML and Freelander, go for the Jeep if you want.

but get the Jeep checked up prior! You don't want to end up having to spend 10k extra on major repair 2 weeks after you buy it.
