Apple iphoneso who has one here in dubai?
seen any for sale other than on online sites like souq?
Geant sells them for AED 3299, Virgin also sells them from what I've heard. A few of the people I work with have them, nice looking and works well but I don't know if i'd buy one.
If you really want one buy one from the states for $399 have it shipped here and then get it unlocked.
I heard the Virgin and Souq ones were locked as well.
To buy in US, you need to get a contract as well, which means you need someone who lives there to buy in their name. Also heard that the new Apple update of firmware makes the unlocked phone unusable. I would wait a couple of months as rumours are that Apple will release an unlocked phone themselves. They will need to do that do be able to sell in Middle-East and many European countries where SIM-locking is dis-allowed by the regulators like TRA.
Actually not true anymore, but good to double check, My cousin in Canada drove down from Vancouver to Seattle and bought a few of them and brought them back up. They were on sale without contracts so you didn't need to sign up for a service to get the phone. If you go on souq, there are people offering to unbrick the phone for AED200 just in case you did the upgrade and botched things up. Sim Locking phones is a BS practice and I'm happy they don't do it here, the one that Apple is meant to officially release in Europe is meant to be 16gigs and offer 3g support so I agree with root, wait, it is worth your while.
hmmm...maybe there is money to be made here:
Buy for around AED 1500 ($399) Sell for around AED 3000 Make 1500 per piece. Ticket to USA around AED 4000. Buy 3 phones and you are already in profit. Buy 10 phones and you get a holiday budget as well.
There are some very sad features of the iPhone which make it totally unattractive, like:
- no MMS support - you cannot take videos with the camera - no bluetooth headphone support Anyway, you are better off buying something else like the HTC Touch if you are a fan of multiple touch tech. The iPhone is just overpriced and overhyped, my opinion. Give respect, get respect.
iphone is a pile of crap. if you want to get something similar, get the ipod touch, which is basically the same (including a wireless web browser) without the lame phone included inside.
this is what i intend to do. FYI. the iphone IS availabe in the USA without a contract. just goto any apple store and buy it. you will have to get it unlocked. and IT DOES have support for Bluetooth headset, but cant send files to other phones/pc over bluetooth.
Guys, guys!
I have actually held the iPhone in my hand and tried using it. Its really nice! I thought like many of the comments here before, but that was prior to seeing the thing. It's not your usual phone...and its a lot more than a phone. The user interface design is very very cool, and the looks are stylish, and build seems solid. If you're just looking for a practical phone or PDA dont get it. If you're looking into a stylish picture and music machine which also is a pretty good and intuitive phone then go for it. MMS...who uses that? Specially if you can rather email photos for free from the phone instead. It would've been nice with 3G on the ones available now.
virgin does not sell the iphone anymore. not sure about geant.
the ones on souq are unlocked but all over 2500dhs. to buy one in the states it costs 400+ tax atmost total of $450 which is a little less than 1700dhs. unlocking takes about 1hr for a newbie. any other stores where they sell the iphone for around 2000dhs?
Re: Apple iphoneI like iPhone 3g because till now, I have used the iPhone 3G for making calls, listening to music, checking email, playing games, watching videos over a wi-fi hotspot.
