The 2012 Hyundai Elantra is being investigated by U.S. safety regulators over an incident that left a driver injured after a side curtain airbag deployed during a crash. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened the preliminary probe last Thursday, covering around 123,000 vehicles. In this complaint, the driver’s face and ear were lacerated. The photos of the vehicle that crashed showed a metal part sticking out from the left edge of the headliner on top of the driver seat. In a statement, Hyundai Motor America said that this examination is still in the very early stages as neither Hyundai nor NHTSA have gotten a chance to scrutinize the 2012 Elantra, which is the subject of this evaluation. Hyundai also said that it has received no other complaints of the 2012 Elantra deploying its side curtain airbag and injuring people.
