Opel, the European brand of General Motors, is working on a new small car to rival the likes of the Fiat 500 and the Mini Cooper.
The car was developed under the code name Junior. But Opel announced on Tuesday that the car will be named Adam--the Opel Adam for most European countries and the Vauxhall Adam for the United Kingdom.
A photo released by Opel shows a camouflaged three-door hatchback. The car uses GM's Korea-developed platform that also underpins cars such as the Chevrolet Spark.
The Adam is set to go on sale in Europe in fall 2013. We'll probably get to see it this fall at the Paris motor show.
Powerplants for the Adam include three-cylinder gasoline and diesel units, and an all-electric version in 2015. The Spark gets a 1.2-liter four-cylinder. There's no word on the possibility of electric or diesel versions for the U.S. market.
