Hyundai, represented by Juma Al Majid Establishment in the UAE, yesterday opened a bold new era with the UAE premier of its Genesis luxury saloon at a launch ceremony in Madinat Jumeirah attended by a large number of diplomats, VIPs and the famous Arab TV celebrity George Qirdahi who was the Hyundai’s official guest of honour.

With its artfully-sculpted modern exterior form and understated, clean character lines, Genesis projects an authoritative, sophisticated presence. Genesis represents an investment of approximately US $600 million and is the culmination of four years research and development.

"Genesis is the pride of Hyundai technology and symbolizes our determination to enter the highly competitive arena of luxury cars now dominated by the Europeans,” said Hyundai Juma Al Majid Establishment President Isam Abu Nabah. “Genesis will consolidate our position as the leader of the UAE luxury sedan market.”

Using the Mercedes E-Class, BMW 5-series and Lexus GS as the engineering benchmarks for the Genesis programme, the Hyundai development team adopted a new rear wheel drive platform. With the new layout, Genesis attains the near-ideal 52:48 front: rear weight distribution which facilitates optimal handling dynamics.

“Genesis has been designed with the VIP in mind; all its premium features combine to make what is quite possibly the most comfortable corporate vehicle available in the UAE.”

The Genesis layout means that it has more passenger and luggage space than its competitors and its full options utilise the latest in technology and Hyundai engineering to create a premium executive vehicle.

In the US, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration awarded five-star crash test ratings, the highest government rankings in the country, to Genesis for both frontal and side-impact crash tests.

"Genesis was engineered with a lightweight but strong body shell, featuring ultra-high tensile steel, laser welding, and advanced adhesive bonding," Abu Nabah said. "Add eight airbags and electronic active head restraints and you can see the focus we placed on designing Genesis for occupant safety. These five-star results are just one indication of the dedication Hyundai engineers place on safety."

Maintaining Hyundai's emphasis on delivering leading safety technology, Genesis boasts world-class active and passive safety features that both prevent accidents and maximize the well-being of its occupants in the event of a collision. The Genesis continues the Hyundai tradition of standardizing key life-saving safety technology, with features such as Electronic Stability Program (ESP), eight airbags and electronic active head restraints.

ESP compares the driver’s intended course with the vehicle’s actual response. It then brakes individual front or rear wheels and/or reduces engine power as needed in certain driving circumstances to help correct understeer or oversteer.

Other innovative features include:

• Driver Information System (DIS) and the user-friendly multimedia jog/shuttle wheel controller provides near-instant control over entertainment system (CD/DVD/MP3 personal audio such as i-Pod), cell phone with Bluetooth connectivity. All DIS functions are software updatable giving Genesis owners easy and quick access to the expanded features and latest improvements.

• A premium surround-sound audio system by Lexicon with 17 speakers and a 12-channel 528W amplifier featuring LOGIC 7 technology that is used by top luxury brands.

• State-of-the-Art Sachs sports-tuned Electronic Air Suspension raises or lowers vehicle height to optimize aerodynamics and improve road-holding during high speed driving

• Smart Key Technology with key proximity sensor which enables driver to simply "press" button to start or stop engine

• Rear Power adjustable seat with remote audio control

• Safety Power trunk lid

• Electronic Parking Brake: simply flick the switch to ingage/disengage the parking brake (late availability )

• Auto-Hold Brakes which during stops eliminates need for driver to keep constant pressure on brake pedal; brakes are released automatically upon application of throttle pedal (late availability )

• Smart Cruise Control use radar waves to help maintain safe driving distance while cruise control feature is engaged (late availability)
