You hope they do :? Why?

why not?

The worst part is where you cannot sell a car older than 10 years.

Fokk, Why would I go through the trouble of importing them cars, i'm talking about either GCC spec or cars that alredy in the uae besides there's always a way to get things done if you know the right people, this, my friends, is the land of favortism  .people get away with a whole lot of shit because of their family names or social status. Many people have evos here  I want a car that not many people have yet has the potential to be a road eating beast. I just can't make up my mind that is why I need other opinions and people who see things I dont

yeah, wasta can get you far ;)

A Lambo Reventon will give you a lot of street cred and make heads turn...a slightly expensive proposition though. ;)

There are a lot of EVOs and Zs. The Supras are a bit old so you dont see that many.

How much are you planning to spend on this project?

Oops! Took it in the wrong sense. I thought you meant that they bring the date closer ("backtrack the date") :)

All good performance cars which have potential are much more than 10 years old, so once again, forget it! New rule means you can't buy a car older than 10 years.
Local spec high performance JDM legend? You are in the wrong country. :) You won't find any awesome, full-o potential cars in GCC spec.
Not here to dicourage you at all. Its just that these new gay rules make me feel all "choked". Don't like living here as much as I used to.

"Choked" is a good word...the dream car projects are now just becoming dreams.

But as Fokkae says, everything can be done if you know the right people.

Finding a Celica GT-4 is not going to be easy. These are rare machines.

Ive been searching as to what the actual regulations are here in dubai, coming from australia we have a lot but we have beasts there to. all street legal. all modded to the max

we have beated up cars with full exhaust just for the fun of it.

dont tell there is "loud" laws here to?

how does one find these regulations out?

knshaboo: Get registered, its free.
There are 'loud laws' but it all depends on the policeman's mood. One policeman may think your car is too loud and the other may think its fine.
There is almost no way to find out these regulations.

The new rules to be implemented by the 1st of December 2008 are:
Cars older than 10 years cannot be sold or bought.
Cars older than 20 years cannot be used on the roads of the UAE.

The new rule to be implemented on the 1st of January 2009 is:
Cars older than 5 years cannot be imported.

A new rule will be implemented in 2010 (starting Jan 1st):
Cars older than 15 years cannot be used on the roads of the UAE.

thanks for the information T.N.T

Ok so, as i used to do in australia.

Basically register a car stripped of any fancies.

then once registered mod to hearts content?

its rather ridiculous that we cant find out these regulations. is it true we have to ask what colour we want to spray our car?

this means they will denie if i wanted a metalic purple and yellow vehicle, or again is this "after" registration?

what about vintage classics? i know there are collectors who actually drive there vehicles, but now they will just look at them.

rules and regulations are good to function but how they come up with some of them really interests me.

You got that perfectly right!
All the 'fun' cars are 10 years+ though :? Except the Evolutions and STis ofcourse.
As for the paint, you have to ask them before doing it, that is true. In most cases they won't deny any requests of changing the colour you send them as long as the colour doesn't resemble police/army/taxi etc. I've also heard that you need 'special' permission to go for Matte Black.

I've been searching for a place where the GCC specs are published, and have not been able to find anything.
If anyone finds the website (there should be something official??) then we should make it a sticky topic here.

I wonder if UAE's rule about banning old cars goes against the GCC charter? Hmmm...maybe we have a legal glitch to stop this new law. :)
