Is Land Rover LR2 good SUV

Postby bilalsk on Thu Jul 05, 2007 12:47 pm

Hello,

I am looking forward to buy a new SUV but unable to make my decision since there are so many & dont know which one is good for a long use. I looked through the following:

1. Land Rover LR2 - AED 145,000 Full Options.
2. Ford Edge - AED 130,000 Full Options.
3. Toyota Prado - AED 132,000 Semi Options (Least Safety as compared)
4. Chevrolet Captiva - AED 110,000 Full Options.
5. Honda MRV - AED 130,000 Full Options.

My budget is approx 100,000 AED, can be extended if i am convinced on the SUV i buy. I am planning to use for minimum of 3 years to 5 years but worried of LR2 & Edge, since they are new models, therefore; consumer review report is not available.

Prado is good but with least safety features but then, good resale value, even after 5 years. I am worried about LR2, like the mechanical failures, etc, although they are giving 60,000 Kms free service but i feel it is little compact.

Can anyone advise me which SUV I must go for? With the New SUV, i would be going off road but not hard core.

My choice would be in the order of:
1. Toyota Prado VX
2. Honda MRV
3. Land Rover LR2
4. Chevy Captiva
5. Ford Edge

Why?
Resale on the japanese variants is well, and quality/build wise they are more reliable. The new LR2 is supposedly a big improvement from before but as you said there are'nt that many reviews out there.

The others 2 I dont really know about.

Steer clear of the Captiva, its ugly
The Edge is very youth oriented and has a sweet panoramic roof!
The others are okay too, although Prado is your safest bet.
