Nowadays, all the SUVs are 'posers' as they are based on a crossover platform. Like the completely useless Nissan Murano. However, some people welcome all these changes as they generally become more fuel-effecient as crossover's and have better handling to conquer the 'concrete jungle'. I am so sure that about more than 90% of brand new SUV buyers don't take them off-road. So why not buy a crossover instead which combines the advantages of a real 4x4 with versatility, and save on fuel too!
The Volkswagen Touareg is a spectacular off-roader and the Q7 is good too, if not as good as the Cruiser. (I am saying this from personal experience) During the launch, they allowed us to take them off-road and they sure are good, even if they don't look like they are. 'Wheels' had also written an article on that day I think.
