Hey! Now that's over-excitement! Overdose of Redbull?
Don't be so happy, there is a 10% chance of it coming to the U.A.E.
Here, I did the pic posting for you: Certainly a hot-hatch!

One more thing, it will come here by the name of: Honda Civic Type-R, not Si. That is U.S only.

Apparently 1 reason why coupe's r not brought 2 da UAE is bcuz of their costy insurance.. i just knew that lately... U still can find coupe's like da 206RC, Clio sport, Hyundai Accent, n da Citroen C2.. (looking @ da bright side...)

that car looks very nice in the type R config.

You all do realise that in the UK, the defaul Honda Civic looks like the shape above (without the Type R trim of course...)... The Civic here and the Uk is a totally different shape... :?

I know!
For the eight gen Civic, Honda made three different models better suited to their needs.
1) The JDM spec Civic, in other words, the one we get. It goes in all Asian, African and South American markets. Its actually a slightly modified version of the US spec Civic and is actually slightly cheaper to produce thus suiting the markets its sold in.

Image

2) The US spec Civic was made by looking at the interests of the US market and is entirely produced there too. It has several versions: petrol, CNG, hybrid, Si and Si sedan.

Image

3) The European Civic isn't sold as a sedan but instead as a hatchback as it is quite obvious that Europeans prefer hatchbacks more than other types. The Type-R version is based on the European Civic.

Image
(Yes, that's the standard version and if you look closely, it actually has 5-doors)

All this makes me think that we won't have a Type-R Civic at all because no such version based on the JDM spec car has been built yet.

we are getting the Type R

Postby navadv on Thu Feb 01, 2007 3:56 pm

Ok - True - there are 3 different versions

In America - our Civic is sold under the Acura brand

There is also the Civic Si - the american version that is a coupe and comes with a 2.0L 200hp engine.

However, recently Honda has been talking with Mugen and have released the Si Sedan or to us in the UAE - the Civic SiR

Image

4 doors, stiffer suspension with sways & struts (hence killer handling) and the same 2.0L, 200Hp engne (that i hear with small mods easily brings that figure up to 220-240hp)

The SiR was last released in UAE in 2000 and it sold extremely well (even today its hard to find one). Hence it should come here at a price tag just under the s2000 - hence ~80-110K.

Correction: Our Civic only sells in Canada as an Acura.
Another correction, the pic you posted is of the US spec Civic Si which is for the U.S market only! AND its chances of coming to the UAE are very very less.
If the original SiR sold so well, why is it harder to find? I can see a lot of Camry's but the SiR is even rarer than a Skoda.
BTW, I guess its Si for the eighth generation and not SiR.

i disagree

Postby navadv on Thu Feb 01, 2007 5:07 pm

hmm

i dont see why it doesnt come.
Previously they have brought down other Type Rs and they have sold well too.

The way the new civic is selling (they have become more common than Corollas  ) - it should make sense for them to bring it down.

I could name atleast 5 -10 people who would buy it if it came here for under 100K - not to mention the rest of the locals :)

not trying to argue with you = but it would make sense if they brought it down.

About the SiRs - i see one everyday! - but seriously, they were common when they first came - then slowly they have been raped and destroyed. you can find a whole lot of them lying in sharjah scrap yards - totalled and unusable.
Try going to RAK and seeing how may u see ! - from what i hear- quite alot!

Well, I never said that it doesn't make sense to bring one here. I was just trying to tell you the possibilities of such a thing happening.
