Getting a bike license

Postby T.N.T on Fri May 16, 2008 9:21 pm

What is the fastest way to get a bike license? I heard that Dubai Police have some test of their own and that you don't have to go through the whole classes and driving school hassle. Just pay for the test, if you pass it, license is yours.
I'm talking about someone who does not have any kind of driving license but knows how to ride bikes pretty well.
On a side note, which driving school is the best one right now to get a bike license? I'm talking about how quick you get and money you have to spend.

I was worried for a while as I thought you were talking about yourself!

Bike license...if you have a car license you don't need to take the theory test.

If not then you need to take that.

The actual police tests are 2: one is for you to do a number 8 and the other is the actual driving test. Both are simple if you know how to drive. The tests are done on Honda CD 200 bikes.

Where to do this? Belhasa on Wasl Road has a nice setup with everything inside. The tests also take place inside their compound.

Then there's Emirates Driving School in Ghusais that apparently have a large such school. I've not seen that personally.

So, imagine I'm a newcomer to Dubai and I want a bike license really quick and cheap. Is it possible to directly go to the police and give the test or do I have to get into a driving school?

Hi,

As a friend i would suggest that the new comer should not go for a bike license and instead apply for a car license. my reason would be the following:

With the recent curbs on issuing driving license it is not really quick. the waiting period for your classes and the tests are pretty similar.
It is also not really easy as many have complained that one never realises why he failed in the road test.
Cheap, i doubt as the classes and revelant costs are alomost the same. it merely depends on how many classes you need/take.
The weather in Dubai is not really great for bike riding through out the year. so one day you will face the truth that one need an A/C.
Safety of the ride has always been questionale with the speeds here.
A bike license is great as a secondary one and the basic will remain the car.

Finally, A friend of mine went ahead with the same approach. after driving over a decade in his home country it still took him over a year to get the bike license. dont know how much he spent. more over there are some restrictions on applying for both licenses at the same time hence he had to finish bike before he could enroll for the car.

Nevertheless, happy riding and all the best....

Once a biker...always a biker!

I guess its faster and cheaper to have a bike and also easier to find parking. Depends a bit on where one lives and works.

Hello Homies,

Guess who is back. ICEEEE

Alright someone interested in Bikes. Getting a bike license is faster however i believe for someone who has no other license in DUBAI and is not from a country which is under the classes exempt list does have to go through the classes. The number of classes are far lesser compared to the car and the license for a reasonable biker can be achieved in 15 - 20 days maximum of a month.

Well considering that she has got me a 600RR 2007 asking to sell the 600F 2002 is not a bad deal :D
