Hi,

I'm looking at shipping/flying parts for my Jeep Wrangler from the States and was wondering what the clearing charges are. I just recieved a quote from the seller in the States, but he clearly said that I will be responsible for extra charges when it arrives? What will that be?

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks

This varies a lot and depends on the customs guys.
The import duty is around 5%, so that is what it should cost. You may ask the sender to put a lower value on the items shipped, and it may help.

Anything more than 5%, you should then be able to go resolve this with the custom folks.

I thought it was around 5% - that's the same for importing cars right?

I'm thinking of goods to the value of 5-6k so as long as it's not stupid charges it'll be fine.

Thanks

Well, there is really no justification for charging higher. There might be some handling charges that the company receiving the shipment and clearing it for you may take. You may want to check that.

Probably worth giving a call to DHL or Fedex or TNT and asking them this.

Did you buy from a retailer or private? Did you choose UPS or was it the seller? Would you say it was more cost effective than buying over here?

Thanks
