On the wires today....

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- General Motors plans to sell gas-sipping vehicles in the oil-rich Persian Gulf, according to a press report Wednesday. "We're currently running tests on the vehicles and if all goes well we'll start sales in the fourth quarter," Terry Johnsson, president of GM's Middle East unit told Zawya Dow Jones. GM sales in the Middle East are up. Gasoline in Saudi Arabia, the world's largest oil producer, costs about 91 cents a gallon. On Tuesday, GM unveiled sweeping plans to boost U.S. production of cars and close four truck-making plants

I also hear that they are thinking of 100% duty on high-end vehicles in UAE!
Also similar for Cigarettes and other luxury items.

He also inaugurated the new public transport double decker buses, fitted with Euro 4 engines conforming to the global environmental standards and the unique I-Shift transmission system, advanced braking systems and electronic stability systems (ESP).

I think the whole VAT implementation thing is bullpoo. Almost everything is undegoing inflation nowadays and VAT will just add to it.
